The 5th edition of the Rugby World Cup Sevens will be held in Dubai, in its magnificient new venue 'The Sevens'.

2009 is a landmark year for Rugby Sevens; the IRB series is celebrating its 10 year anniversary, the World Cup is welcoming the Women into the fold for the first time and later in the year the IOC will be voting on whether rugby rejoins the Olympic movement over Roller Sports, Netball, Baseball & Softball, Squash, Karate or Golf and the festival of rugby taking place in Dubai in March is integral to the success of this vote.

In the 10 years of the IRB Series and more so since the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1993 the landscape of Sevens has changed. The previous 4 tournaments have had 3 winners; England, New Zealand and Fiji twice but this year things could be very different.
