Nelson Mandela Bay 7's 2009

Back to blog listing »

Sunday 23 August 2009

Every December, Nelson Mandela Bay plays host to one of the countries largest 7's Rugby Tournaments, The Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens!

Held in Port Elizabeth, this unique 7's tournament plays hosts to top local, and international 7's teams, (From u11 to Senior Men) who take part yearly to be crowned champions (and to have a good party)

The tournament has seen teams such as Samurai, The British Army, The French Froggies and The SA Vipers (Emerging Springboks 7's) take the field, along with u19 sides from Wales and Kenya.

When the on field entertainment ends, fans and players are treated to top musicians from South Africa, who wow the crowds till the early hours of the morning on special stages and the ever popular Beer Tent

2009 promises to be no different, when 60 teams kick off at the Xerox Stadium at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. With the age groups and touch rugby games kicking off in the morning, the evenings are reserved for the Mens Senior 7's matches, as the floodlights come on to illuminate the hot action taking place on the field.

Anyone interested in partaking, better hurry up as space is limited.
