Monday 26 July 2010

After the dust settles on another amazing weekend of 7s in Newquay we thought you might like to know who left Cornwall with a trophy in their hands and a spring in their step!!

Saturdays main event saw the final leg of the National Sevens Series grace the Sports Centre turf. Having never lost a game at Newquay the British Army were confident ahead of the tournament and this confidence shone through as they defeated the Marauders in a thrilling final. In the series plate a well balanced Apache ran out comfortable winners against a physical Froggies side from France.

The Men's open final pipped two hugely successful sides in the West Country Cavaliers and the Touraid Castaways. The Cavaliers experience pulled them through to win a close affair. The Men's Open plate went to the CLIC sargent Godfathers who overcame a spirited D7W team.

Wooden Spoon Ladies were on hand to win their third Surf 7s Women's Open title beating Team Plutonium in the final in front of a large crowd. The plate saw the Mighty Ducks overcome Reme for the title.

Sunday saw another day of quality sevens regardless of the amount of alcohol consumed the evening before. The plate final saw a comfortable win for the Kent Space Cadets, running out 21-7 winners over a plucky Camberley Colts team.

The Bowl final saw a brutally efficient performance from the Glantaf Billy Goats, they produced a destructive performance to beat Collumpton 33-0.

Sunday's main event lived up to its billing, the form side of the day the Swansea Warriors maintained their form to beat a spirited Bootleggers team 26-7 in a fitting finale to the weekend. Bootleggers kindly donated £250 of their winnings to the Handstand Appeal.

So all in all it was a fantastic weekend and once again we would like to thank everyone who helped make the Newquay Surf 7s 2010 a huge success.
