Welcome to the land of the long summer days, saunas, reindeer and the Midnight Rugby Tournament in Finland. The MRT is an international rugby 10 a side rugby tournament with 21 teams of men and women coming from all over Europe. It takes place in Myllypuro in Helsinki in June. As well as a large Finnish contingent, teams have travelled from France, UK, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Estonia, and all sorts of other rugby loving countries.
The outstanding success of the 2008 and 2009 tournaments means that planning for MRT10 is well underway with teams in a rush to enter this hidden gem of an event.
The 2010 tournament is now open for registrations. The field will be limited to 15 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams. Accompanying the late night rugby will be the usual festivities: pitchside saunas & massages, bellysliding competition, refreshments and enough food to feed a front row. Twice.
If you are looking to expand your rugby horizons, this is definitely one to put on the CV.
