22ND MARIST SAMOA SEVENS
The Marist St Josephs Sports College will once again be hosting the Marist Samoa 7s in 2009, the 22nd running of the tournament.
The Marist Samoa 7's has had the distinction of having National Teams participating and playing against top 7's clubs such as Moataa, Marist Samoa and Marist Auckland who during its heyday included the likes of Terry Wright, Zinzan Brooke and Brothers, John Kirwan, Bernie McGarhill and others all playing on the same team. Representative teams such as Fiji Barbarians, Auckland and Wellington Barbarians, N Z Marist, NZ Universities, Waikato, New South Wales to name a few have all participated. Some of the top 7's players throughout the years that have graced the Marist Samoa 7's include: Current 7's World Champions and NZ All Black 7's skipper Eric Rush, the maestro Waisale Serevi, Orene Aii, Mark and Glenn Ella, Buck Shelford, John Gallager, Johnnie the Shoe - Schuster, Michael Hawker, Roger Gould, Dallas Seymour, Joe Stanley, Frank Bunce, Aqura Niquila, Willie Ofahengaue, Michael Jones, Jobe Tuicabe, Max Olson Jr., Taufusi Salesa, Lolagi Koko, Brian Lima, Alefaio Vaisuai, Alama Ieremia, Junior Tonuu, Andy Aiolupo, Sila Vaifale, Amasio Valence and many other 7's legends.
Several Top Clubs have already indicated their strong interest in competing in this Years Marist Samoa 7's and we have forwarded Invitations to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Cook Islands, Tonga, Malaysia, Guam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia.
Entry to the Marist Samoa Pre-7s Golf Tournament, on Saturday 14th February 2009, is a must. This makes for a fun week for both players and supporters. All of this will make the 2009 Marist Samoa Sevens 22nd Annual Tournament a spectacle not to miss.
