5TH TORNEO DI MACIGNO
Perhaps the only "downhill rugby" tournament in all the world. The field -a shaved corn field- is a slope under the wild sun with an inclination of 16/100. Teams are composed by 7 players. Every team plays half match in the bottom side of the field and half on the upper side. Everyone can play: youngs, olds, men, women, champs, debs. It is an amateur tournament and single players may be aggregate to a team. At the evening there will be a party on the village. Macigno di Montecavolo -in english it would sound "Big rock of Mount Cabbage"- is a small village on the hills where in the XI century lived the vice-emperor of Europe, Mathilde di Canossa. The nearest town, 20 km far, is Reggio Emilia, between Milan and Bologna in the northern part of Italy. Near Macigno there are some bed and breakfast and the ruins of the Castle of Mathilde. Not far -circa 40 km- there are the base of Ferrari car industry and the rugby city of Viadana.
