The international Istanbul Rugby Sevens tournament was brought to life in August 2010, with the aims of introducing Rugby to the Turkish citizens, as well as introducing Turkish Rugby to the international Rugby community.
The very first international Rugby Sevens tournament ever held in Turkey was a huge success, with the national side of India Sevens - then in preparations for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi - taking the title and the prize money of EUR 3000, followed up by the Dubai Frogs taking EUR 1500 back to the UAE, and the home side of the Istanbul Ottomans R.F.C. being on the third spot of the podium taking EUR 500!
The 2012 edition of the Istanbul Rugby Sevens tournament will be held during the weekend of May 5 & 6, 2012, and will again take place on the magnificent green Annex field of the Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium.
There will be a maximum of 16 teams - not only from Europe, but also from the Middle-East, Western Asia, the Far-East and even from the continent of Africa! This tournament is truly a tournament where North meets South and East meets West!!
