National Pub 7's - update!
It’s only mid-June but that hasn’t stopped the interest surrounding the UK’s swansong to the 7’s circuit reaching a crescendo. The National Pub 7’s, held in Harpenden (Hertfordshire) has felt the force of the dramatic surge in interest in the game, with the tournament filling up rapidly. Last year’s champions Druid Saracens will be back to defend their crown, while the perennial 7’s giants White Hart Marauders will be out in full force to stop them. The White Hart Marauders last won the National Pub 7’s with the help of a certain England scrum half, that some 8 months later was playing in the Rugby World Cup Final in Paris: view the rest of the post »
It's nearly time....
With a little over 3 months until the Harpenden National Pub 7's begins the tournament is filling up fast with previous champions White Hart Marauders confirming they’ll be sending a strong team to the tournament. Last year’s finalists, along with the Marauders, were Samurai Barracudas and their coach Terry Sands has announced plans to enter a young side into this year’s event. Also in attendance will be the St Mary’s Silverbacks, fresh from their Middlesex 7’s win and from their “social” excursions at the Bournemouth 7’s. MTC Rugby will also field a strong side after recent success at both the Dubai 7’s and more recently the Church 7’s, with play-maker and Arabian Gulf international Jonny MacDonald at the helm or a happy camp. Harpenden Praetorians, the local side, hope to entertain the many thousands in the crowd, after a successful Kinsale 7s trip of their own. Captain Joe Tennant commented “This is the tournament that really matters to us, it is one of the original tournaments, and offers a chance for us to compete against the likes of Samurai and the Scorpions”. Red Bull will also be present with their much-vaunted “chill-out” area as will Akuma – providing merchandise amongst other activities and entertainment, which will be confirmed closer to the time. In what promises to be a great day of 7’s, happily coinciding with the bank holiday weekend – you can expect fireworks both on and off the pitch. view the rest of the post »
