The Heineken Darwin ‘Hottest 7s’ Tournament is one of the most prestigious events outside the IRB circuit. The 2011 event will see elite men and women from overseas, interstate, and intrastate making the trek to Northern Territory’s ‘Top End’, all battling for the $65,000 winnings - one of the richest tournament in the Southern Hemisphere…
Although played in a region traditionally dominated by ‘Aussie Rules’, the tournament has expanded to such an extent in the last few years that teams are coming from throughout Asia Pacific, and as far afield as Africa. These are not only quality invitation 7s outfits, but teams that had represented their countries at the IRB World 7s calendar such as Australia, Samoa, Fiji, South Africa, Kenya, Japan and Hong Kong to name a few.
2010 had the likes of Aussie Spirit, Kenya, ULR Samurai, Borneo Eagles and Fijian sides Davetalevu taking part.
A fantastic tournament that embraces Australian and ‘Territorian’ traditions for some truly global participants. 2011 could be the hottest yet!
