The Mother City is bringing sexy back in the shape of ‘The Cape Town 10’s! Former Springbok stars and global 10’s gurus Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck, in conjunction with Tournament Director Ron Rutland, are the brains behind this unique and international event....rugby's version of 20:20 cricket.
Tens rugby is a cracking social game allowing all shapes and sizes to participate, with five forwards and five backs in a starting team. It’s a combination of Sevens and 15-man rugby, without all the open space, but with less kicking and therefore still opportunities fro some exciting champagne style rugby. The boys have even managed to add their own nuances on things with a cheeky 6 pointer for tries under the sticks!
The format sees a ‘Beer League’ (for those wanting to ‘enjoy’ themselves off the pitch) Veteran League (for the golden oldies) and the Premier League (for top-level players). Also this year we see Services event with local and overseas military, police and other forces participating.
Just to add to the glitz and glamour the boys hope that, as well as some Springbok legends, the likes of Howard, Bunce, Horan, Little, Kronfield, Robertson, Brooke, Greenwood to be present…and hopefully all playing?!
Hamilton Rugby Club (SA’s oldest club) plays host to this now annual event with many off the pitch and après rugby events on offer. In amongst the glorious sunshine and beautiful boys and girls, there will be a plethora of beer tents, after parties, fancy dress, DJ's and corporate intermingling for business types. It's officially tens time!!
