BSE RUGBY CLUB HOSTS PREMIER 7s EVENT
England, Wales and Ireland send teams to Suffolk
TOP teams are vying to take part in the second ULR International Premier 7s tournament to be hosted by Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club on Sunday, May 9.
The event – the biggest to be staged in East Anglia - will feature 16 premier clubs for what will be a day of thrilling seven-a-side action at The Haberden, with £7,000 in total prize money at stake.
Teams representing last year’s winners Northampton Saints, England St George, Wales Warriors, Irish Wolfhounds, Blackheath and Cambridge University lead the line-up along with sides from Bury St Edmunds, Southend and Latvia – a country determined to strengthen its rugby credentials.
Organiser and the club’s playing chairman Mike Robinson has been delighted with the response he has received so far and says that the club learned a lot staging the inaugural event.
“The first event was a great success but there were lessons learned. This tournament looks like being bigger and better,” said Robinson.
“The demand for places has been fantastic and we have five teams waiting to take a vacant place if someone drops out,” he added.
Robinson revealed that he expected the England, Wales and Irish teams to be at near full-strength as opposed to last year when they visited Suffolk with development squads.
Also joining the action are several top invitation sides with beaten finalists Samurai International, White Hart Marauders, Apache and Koru Kamikaze all confirming their involvement in the event.
Last year, close to 1,000 people were thrilled by the high standard of action on display and Robinson expects to exceed that number in 2010.
“This is an opportunity to see some of the country’s top players and teams and I am expecting all sports lovers to want to be there,” said Robinson.
As a curtain-raiser to the main event, a minis tournament will take place on the club’s mini pitches. This is going to be attended by coaches and talent scouts from Northampton Saints as they seek to discover the players of the future.
There are promotional packages on offer including programme advertising, advertising boards, trade stands and VIP hospitality. For further details contact Gaye Rynsard on 07858 104162 (gaye.rynsard@live.co.uk) or Mike Robinson on 07798 576900 (Michael@ry.tm).
