WANDERLAND INTERNATIONAL RFC
Wanderland International R.F.C
Who we are: Wanderland International R.F.C. is a not for profit organisation, which aims to help young rugby players realise their dreams through the medium of sport.
Rugby is not considered to be a ‘top sport’ in the Netherlands at the moment, however with the introduction of rugby 7’s in the Olympic games in Rio De Janeiro 2016, its popularity is expanding rapidly.
The IRB Seven World Series has an audience of 558 Million (2010) and grows by 24 million per year! 34 different broadcasters in 16 languages and in more than 141 countries carry it.
The experiences and transferrable skills learnt on the rugby pitch and the friendships that develop last a lifetime.By playing for Wanderland International R.F.C. young Dutch rugby players can build their sporting and professional networks with current and past superstars on an international stage.
We aim to mould these young players futures by allowing them to mix with and learn from some of the world’s best professional sportsmen in a competitive environment. They will also receive exposure to national and international media throughout Europe and beyond. This is a facet of professional sport, which is not yet available to them.
This kind of exposure will not only help develop the players but also the profile of Dutch sport.
Thus far: Wanderland International R.F.C. played in it’s first international tournament on June 3rd and 4th 2010 in Rome at the Roma International sevens. Roma is currently the 9th biggest 7’s tournerment in the world, 3rd in Europe and the Biggest in Italy.Through our inaugural tournament we made friends and contacts throughout the sporting world such as Allan Bateman (ex-international welsh and British and Irish Lions Legend), Fabrizio Bernadi (Manging Director of Roma Seven).
These people are excited about what Wanderland International R.F.C. stands for and what we are trying to achieve.
Our Mission: Because of the increased interest in Wanderland International R.F.C. and the game of rugby in general. We are proud to have been invited to a wide selection of tournaments this year. Including, Roma Seven, Istanbul International Sevens, Stockholm Tens, Warsaw Tens, Amsterdam Sevens, Curacoa Sevens and Bournemouth Sevens. Of course we would love to attend all these tournaments, however we understand that we need to build this vision slowly if we want to have a sustainable future. Our vision is a long term one, we wish to help develop and mould young rugby players for years to come.
