The ULR Samurai International team were dealt a double blow today, with the news that Simon Hunt AND John Rudd are unavailable for this weekends UK National Series event at Manchester. Hunt, who was man of the tournament at the Amsterdam and Richmond 7s, will not have recovered from the ankle injury he picked up at the West Country 7s last week. John Rudd is unavailable due to a family wedding.
The ULR Samurai team will also be without West Country 7s player of the tournament, Lee Rees this weekend as he returns to Llanelli Scarlets for pre season training.
The close knit spirit and resolve of the Samurai team will now be needed more than ever this weekend as they look to secure a top 4 place to keep ahead of the series leader board.

Back to Back for Samurai in UK National Series.
The ULR Samurai International team overcame a 14-0 deficit to defeat a visibly pumped up British Army side in a pulsating final at the West Country Sevens. With effort, work rate and clinical finishing paying dividends later in the day, the win puts them firmly in the driving seat on maximum points at the half way stage of the series. view the rest of the post »
FIRST STOP, RUGBY ROCKS...
THE ULR SAMURAI INTERNATIONAL team will kick off their participation in the 4 tournament UK National Sevens series on Saturday 12th June, at the Richmond Athletic Ground in London.
The tournament is the first of 4 in the series which has been put together by Tim Lacey of UR7s (Ultimate Rugby 7s) and promises to be a really competitive series with very little to choose between any of the core teams.
The Samurai management have decided to keep faith with as many of their record breaking Amsterdam 7s winning team as possible, with 8 of this side being selected for the Rugby Rocks 7s tournament at Richmond. Carl Murray will again Captain the side in what promises to be a fantastic tournament.

SAMURAI SELECT TEAM WITH INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR FOR AMSTERDAM.
The ULR Samurai management have selected a team with a real invitation team ethos for Amsterdam.
With the IRB series at Twickenham being held on the same weekend as Amsterdam, the Samurai management were unable to select any of their young internationals from the home nations. With this in mind the selectors searched far and wide in an effort to put a balanced team together to try to defend their title.
The 2010 Amsterdam 7s will be tougher than ever this year as every team will look to be known as the team that stopped the Samurais record run of wins at the event.
The team will be captained by Samurai regular Carl Murray and will again be a blend of youth and experience.
Team = Carl Murray, Glen Rolls, Gavin Dacey, Geoff Griffiths, Graham Harkness, Latu Maka'afi, Oriol Ripol, Mike Davis, Tom Wiley, Jake Sharp, Ryan LeRoux, Jamie Hearn. Coaches - Peter Richards & Mark Hewitt. Manager - Matt Davies. Physio - Ian Horsley.

SCF Team reach 3rd consecutive Dubai Final.......
The Sporting Chance Foundation Team selected and run by the Samurai management team, reached the Dubai 7s International Invitation tournament for the 3rd consecutive year on (5th December 09) Saturday.
They could not quite hold on to the trophy won last year as they were beaten 33 - 22 by Paul Treu's South African 7s team, playing under the banner of the Intenational Marauders.
A slack 4 minute spell immediately after half time allowed Paul Treu's team to score 12 points that the SCF team just could not pull back. Paul Treu's team, including 2 of last years World Sevens Series team Renfred Dazel and Shaun Venter. Marius Schoeman who was recovering from a calf injury also played in a team that proved to much for the SCF invitation team that included players from 5 different countries.
It was a fine double for Paul Treu's team who with the same team, played in the Sri Lanka 7s the week before as a warm up for Dubai and also tasted victory at this event.
Entering the Sri Lankan tournament (playing as the SA Vipers) proved to be a wise move as unlike the SCF team, it enabled them to have some very important game time playing together as a team. Paul Treu has been using these tournaments to give his players valuable experience leading up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The SCF team were also giving players some very important game and development time with Scott Curry (NZ) Gavin Dacey (Wales) and Jamie Hearn & Ollie Lindsay'Hague (England) all looking to become future stars in the 15 and 7 a side game.
The SCF team having come through their pool games unbeaten despite a very close game against an excellent Apache side from the UK, disposed of Templars (another UK side) in the 1/4 final and the NZ Legends in the Semi final to reach their 3rd consecutive Dubai 7s final which was played in front of 50,000 fans shortly before the IRB World Sevens Series final between New Zealand and Samoa.
SCF Trustee Eddie Young, would like to to thank the Samurai management team and players, Emirates Airlines and Simmons & Simmons for their sponsorship and support of the team and the Charity. view the rest of the post »
