Godfathers have high hopes in Newquay
Meet the Family
There's some new faces to the Godfathers team playing in tomorrow's West Country 7s. Get to know them a bit more with some exclusive personal profiles on the squad:
Sam Saunders (Captain)
A pivotal figure both on and off the field, Sam has been a part of the Godfather family for a number of years and deservedly leads the side in 2010. Currently plying his trade at National 3 (South) champions Taunton, he has also played for Dings Crusaders, Walcot and Somerset.
Chim Gale
The Worcester Warriors Strength and Conditioning coach has been a core member of the side for a number of years now. The former Bath Academy and Hartbury player’s versatility, leadership and experience are key elements of some of the Godfathers recent successes.
Ollie Collingham
Kindly nicknamed “The Mutant” by his fellow players, Ollie made his first Godfathers appearance at the Flanders 10s where he won hit of the day and best newcomer. Another ex-Hartbury boy is a welcome addition to the forwards with his sheer physical presence and surprising pace.
Olly Robinson
Much is expected of the ex-England U18 international and Bath Academy flanker. Recruited by new coach Joe Goodman, the Loughborough University open-side makes his Godfathers debut at the West Country 7s.
Marcus Brooker
Last season’s top try scorer and player of the year for National 3 (South) side Cleve, the Bath University student also represented Bath Rugby last year. A winger by trade but given his fearless tackling and abrasive style he’s more than comfortable in the forwards as well.

Flanders 10's up next for the Godfathers
Godfathers Rugby attempt to improve on last year's third place when they return to Belguim this weekend to play the Europe's biggest 10s tournament - Flanders Open Rugby 10s.
The Bath based invitational side embark on their fifth overseas tour after previous trips to Germany, Italy and Poland - winning both the Hamburg 7s and Warsaw 10s.
This year they have assembled an impressive squad with players from throughout the UK. Sam Saunders (Taunton) will lead the team which includes players from Walcot, Bath University, Avonmouth, Cleve, Ealing, Paviors and Leicester Lion plus their very own international - Will Luangrath of Laos.
The qualifying round on Saturday sees them pitted against Hamlet (Denmark), the host team Dendermonde (Belguim) and Les Planners (France). On Sunday the finals could see them play sides from Cameroon, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Belguim, South Africa, Netherlands or Poland.
They'll be added motivation for winning the tournament with a hefty prize fund at stake which would help contribute to their continued efforts to raise money for CLIC Sargent - the charity for children and young people with cancer.
Flanders will also see the first outing of the Godfathers Vets who will play against Moscow Dragons (Russia), Les Gros Moignons (France) and the Royal Logistic Corp (England).
This season has already seen victory at the Bath Spa University 7s and third place at the Bradford on Avon 7s. The Godfathers will also be playing at the West Country 7s (Keynsham), Newquay 7s, Cotswold 7s and Cardiff 7s later this year.
The Godfathers would like to thank all of their sponsors who make all of this possible.

Godfathers charity auction raises funds for Clic Sargeant
GODFATHER STASH RAISES OVER £700 FOR CLIC SARGENT AT ROBBIE STUART MEMORIAL DAY AUCTION!
Last Saturday the second annual Robbie Stuart memorial match took place at Old Bristolians' Failand home with the aim of raising money and awareness for the cancer charity CLIC whilst also celebrating the life of Old Bristolian legend Robbie Stuart.
As a consequence of league re-structuring many of the Godfather players were unable to attend the match in person but were represented by current players Will Luangrath and Tristan Fowler (the former opening the scoring for the Robbie Stuart 15). Further attendance was in evidence later in the evening and a number of Godfather items were provided for the auction. Amazingly (possibly due to the sizeable alcoholic intake) the Godfather kit took pride of place at the auction and ended up being the most expensive items of the night, even out pricing a signed Josh Lewsey Wasps shirt.
In the end three of the limited edition Godfather CLIC Sargent shirts used at last years Flanders 10's tournament sold for £250, £215 and £150 respectively whilst a Godfather hooded top went for £70 raising almost £700 in total for charity.
Pictured are Godfather players Garth hannaford & Will Franklin and successful bidders from Old Bristolians James Trezona (left), Matt Cooper (centre) and Iain Stuart (Robbie's brother) right.
Congratulations to all those at Old Bristolians and CLIC on a great event.
Let's hope we can raise even more money in 2010. view the rest of the post »
