West Country Cavalier off to play the Australian 7's Circuit...

Back to blog listing »

Thursday 21 October 2010

The West Country Cavaliers, a 7’s rugby side built around ex-Bath Rugby and University of Bath players, including Dave Ward, Mike Baxter and Kieron Lewitt, are pleased to announce that one of their players has agreed a deal with a top 7’s side in Australia. Winger Chris Eames, who plays 15-a-side rugby for Bath Combination club Keynsham, will be jetting off in early November to play 7’s rugby with the Country King Browns, taking in venues including the Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and Wellington, New Zealand. Eames will find himself lining up with and against some of the Southern Hemisphere’s future stars as the Super 15 sides regularly compete on the 7’s circuit, helping to develop their younger stars.

On the news Eames commented, ‘With the Cavaliers I have played against some top sides in the UK National Sevens Series including Sale Sharks and the Army. Now I’m really looking forward to getting over there and testing my skills Down Under and learning more about the game.’ Chairman of the West Country Cavaliers John Gould is also pleased by the news, ‘All of the boys offer their congratulations and good luck to Chris, and we hope he can persuade a few of Australia’s finest to follow him home to the UK to play a season with the Cavaliers in 2011.’

Eames will be back in the country next May ready to embark on the UK and European 7’s circuit with the Cavaliers. As well as the usual locations of Newquay, Rugby Rocks London, Manchester and the West Country 7’s at Keynsham, the team has successfully secured an invite to participate in the world-famous Amsterdam 7’s next May. The West Country Cavaliers are currently on the lookout for sponsors who are able to support the side in 2011.
