BOOTLEGGERS RFC
We are a non profit club which has had the privilege of donating a figure approaching £3,000 to charity from 2008-2012. Most notably to The Oxford Cancer Centre; The Sparrow School, Johannesburg; 'The Backpack's' community project, Cape Town; and HANDSTAND, for Meningitis. This year we intend to go above and beyond that figure.

Our players are predominately from Universities all over the UK. We are all aged between 18-24. We have pushing 100+ students and young professionals on the contact list for the club.
In July 2008 we played in our inaugural rugby tournament at the STOCKHOLM 10's. We reached the quarter final.
On 2 May 2009 we entered the LITTLEMORE 10’s Cup, losing narrowly in the Final.
We took two squads to the NEWQUAY SURF 7's Championships on the 18/19 July 2009, entering both the Open and President’s Cup, reaching the Quarter final of the Open.
STOCKHOLM 10's 2009, we lost out 19-7 to the Olorun Sharks in the Final after leading the game for the first half, and playing some cracking rugby.
Castle CAPE TOWN 10's in February 2010. We took Western Province to a 2 point deficit, unfortunately losing 14-12 with one man down. The Bootleggers took Hamilton's RFC to the Quarter Final dominating for most of the game but narrowly conceding a try in the closing seconds to lose 19-14 Hamilton's went on to the final and were narrowly beaten by the Stellenbosch Maties.
THE LITTLEMORE 10's 2010, on May 2. We took a team which had never played before together. The scorecard looked like this: PLAYED: 4; SCORED: 165; CONCEDED: 0! Well done.
NEWQUAY SURF 7's: Men's Open & President's Cups – 17-18th July 2010. Our OPEN side started strongly in the group, not conceding a try until the last game; the Bootleggers RFC proceeded into the quarters. Win: style, finesse, and panache saw the BRFC through to the semis against the Castaways. A confident start saw us go 26-7 up at half time; however they came back in the 2nd half to win it 31-26.
The Sunday PRESIDENT's side were looking to be a stronger side than 2009, and wow, that proved correct! The BRFC Sunday VII side (including 3 chaps fresh from leaving school two weeks previously) played some expert 7's in the group stages playing relaxed and exciting 7's. Through to the semi final against the Phantom: the scores tied 12-12 at full time. The extra time (Golden Try) period showed the fitness, passion, vigour, and finally victory. The final drew in the Swansea Warriors. They went 12-0 up quickly, but just after half time, 12-7 was the score. Unfortunately we lost 19-7.
For running-up in the President's Cup, the Bootleggers RFC was awarded £500. We thoughtfully donated the money to our Semi final opposition's charity (which they were raising money for in this competition): HANDSTAND for Meningitis.
A special thank you to our two coaches: Steve Shortland & Mark Hanslip who were a credit to the club and both great value on & off the pitch!
STOCKHOLM 10's: The 3rd Bootleggers trip to the archipelago city. The group gave us 3 games: Welwyn Rangers, Club Portuense & Full Circle. All of which proved solid opposition, however the BRFC scored 111 points and conceded 12 in the group. We were Quartered against the valiant Wooden Spoon. An RFU charity side that compete at National 2. 2008 tournament winners the Spoons started strongly, however the BRFC never let down with some epic defence. However 17-7 was the losing result, a lesser losing margin than the semi finalists! The Wooden Spoon went on to defeat the Olorun Vikings, and were supported unto the last by the ever sporting Bootleggers RFC.
The Bootleggers RFC were awarded the "Fair Play Trophy" for exceptional sportsmanship and for being credits to the tournament and the club.
The ABINGDON 7’s 22nd August 2010, The Bootleggers RFC played some great 7’s, smashing Didcot in the Group by 51-0. Oxford Harlequins no-showed and gave us a 10-0 by. St. Edward’s Martyrs proved tougher: a 19-19 draw put us through on point’s difference. The semi final was against the Young Pretenders. They were a strong squad who finished well, and we lost 22-12.
LITTLEMORE 10's May 2011 the Bootleggers were defending the title. We played some admirable rugby and smashing various sides in our wake. Unfortunately facing a conglomoration of Blues players in the final we lost 27-12.
The LONDON 10's June 4-5 2011 was a first. We played some cracking rugby, drawing 10-10 with the Penguins on Day 1. However, after many good victories, the final saw a much improved Penguins side beat us 32-7.
The EDINBURGH 10's on June 18th 2011 saw us reach the Semis, playing some good rugby. We lost a lot of players in the run up to the tournament and in the first game, but with the help of some local recruits and a Zim, we enjoyed a great tournament and scored first against the eventual winners.
NEWQUAY SURF 7's July 1-3 2011: This was a bit dissappointing for the Club as the turn out was rather dimminished. We exited the Men's Open in the Quarter final stage; the President's Cup saw us retire after the group stage.
ABINGDON 7's August 21st 2011: The Bootleggers RFC played hard at a blisteringly hot tournament to win the Plate! The boys played vivaciously and energetically, proving tough oppostion for club and invitational sides throughout.
LONDON Rugby Rocks 10s 26 May 2012: was a SPECTACULAR WIN for the Bootleggers RFC. Champions of the London Rugby Rocks 10s! A spectacular performance by Richard McCallum and fantastic work by coach Sam Howard.
EDINBURGH 10s 23 June 2012: saw the Bootleggers RFC play in a touch competition against last year's winners and old-time rivals Stockholm Exiles in the group. We easily went two tries up against the Rodents in game 1 but lost the lead due to a lack of up-front defence. No escape from the group.
NEWQUAY SURF 7s 1 July 2012: The Bootleggers RFC had the toughest of asks in Game 1, The British Army. However 0-7 at half time proved to all watching that the We meant business. A smashing victory against Windsor RFC saw us in the Quarter final where after leading against Akuma all game we narrowly went out 22-21 in the last play of the game. Great tournament and a fantastic atmosphere. Star performers were Leo Morris, James Kelway-Bamber and Rob Johnson.
