This season has got off to a good start and the team has come along immensely.

AB Rugby 7's started off in the winter months of last year, October 2010. Training only on Sundays for two hours, made up of only friends and no real rugby experience. The team has been through some tough times, some Sundays we only had two members attending!

We are beginning to build numbers, currently totalling 15 players and training is starting to extend to some Thursdays. Only recently have we acquired more than one ball!

Despite all this we have managed three tournaments; the Graham Robinson Memorial Seven's, MR7's and Rugby Rocks.

Here we scraped the Wooden Spoon, being our first tournament this was a huge achievement for us. We learnt allot, played with passion and picked up a couple of bruises along the way!


Manchester Rugby Seven's

For the team, this was a big deal. This was our first "tour", and one that we will never forget, Friday evening was somewhat beer fuelled. We camped in a pub car park a few miles out which I think for most was one of the worst night’s sleep we could have wanted!
Saturday we played against teams which certainly taught us a few things. Sadly we did not win any of our games but by Jove did we do well, all things considered.
On the Sunday we enjoyed watching the more professional teams play, we need to put in allot more work before we have a chance against them!


Rugby Rocks

I think the team would agree when I say this was by no means a "social" cup, the competition was fierce, rehearsed and very serious. Again we won none of our games but did score a good couple of tries and made some excellent runs.


For now the team is looking for some lower level tournaments, playing against the harder teams has taught us much but now we need to start winning some games!

Any teams out there who are interested in friendlies or just socialising then don’t hesitate to get in contact. We have put allot of effort in but it can’t be forgotten that we are a social team and rugby for us, as it should be for all social teams, is our way of having fun.
