Scotland’s Kings of the Sevens continues this weekend with Langholm and Peebles the next stops on the Grand Prix style Series.
Selkirk, Kelso and Jed Forest have broken away from the rest at the top of the table with five tournaments remaining this season.
Last weekend saw Hawick take their home title with Selkirk victorious in Berwick. It gives Selkirk a one point lead over Kelso, who were runners-up at both tournaments.
Selkirk will face Edinburgh University in the first round at Langholm on Saturday with Kelso drawn against Northumberland in the knockout style event. Last year saw Hawick stun the Kooga Wailers to the title with the defending champions due to meet Carlisle Barbarians in their opening fixture.
Craig Chalmer’s Melrose main commitments this weekend will be Saturday’s Merlso Scottish Hydro Premier Cup final, their final game of the 15-a-side season.
But they are due at Peebles the following day to defend the title they won last year, with Boroughmuir their first round opponents. Selkirk will fancy their chances against Haddington with Kelso up against Langholm. Jed Forest will come up against Biggar at the always popular Peebles event.
Following this weekend Earlston, Gala, and Jed Forest are the remaining tournaments left in a Series that Watsonians won last year.
