Scottish Universities Men and English Universities Women reigned supreme at the BUCS Home Unions rugby sevens.
The tournament was part of an overall biennial event that pits squads of sportsmen and women from English, Northern Irish, Scottish and Welsh Universities against one another in a variety of sports that also included Basketball, Football, Hockey, and Netball.
In the Men’s competition the Scots, coached by James Boyd, beat Northern Ireland Universities (24-14), Wales Universities (24-10). Their toughest test came against English Universities, but a disciplined and structured approach bought the hosts a 24-14 win.
In the Women’s event England were in dominant form against Northern Ireland (53-0), Wales (24-0) before being made to work hard by Scotland, eventually coming through 14-7.
This year’s BUCS Rugby Union Men’s and Women’s Sevens Championships are being hosted at Chinnor Rugby Club on 2nd May 2010.
