Cannes entices business schools for sevens

Friday 9 April 2010 (UR7s)

The South of France is the exotic location for 10 business schools this weekend at the inaugural French Riviera Rugby Sevens.

The merger of the CERAM Business School and ESC Lille School of Management, to form the SKEMA Business School, has provided the inspiration for a Sevens tournament.

The School’s rugby club, Esprit Passion Ovale, will play host to other institutions from all over the globe over the weekend.

Sides from Pakistan, Japan, Kenya, and Romania are just some of the countries that will be represented in Monaco.

Originally the brainchild of Fabian Charreyre, current students Bogdan Dinu and Nicolas Rigal have since become the chief organisers in bringing the event to fruition.

“Although Sevens is now an Olympic sport, it hasn’t developed much in France. We want to promote it and make something completely different to the 15-a-side game,” said Nicolas Rigal.

“We also would like to promote our School because we feel it’s a place that gives students the opportunity to make their own dreams becomes reality. We have used the help of the school to aid us in sponsorship and the implementation of the tournament .”

One of those sponsors is Deloitte with the weekend expected to provide plenty of networking opportunities for the budding entrepreneurs in a glamorous location.

“It’s meant to be a fun experience for the various Business Schools and a chance for competitive sport,” added Rigal.

“Kenya’s Strathmore University, ‘The Leos Triumphant’, have already enjoyed Monte Carlo, the red carpet in Cannes, and several villa party on the cap of Antibes”.

Next weekend (April 17) sees 10 more buisness schools head to the IESE in Barcelona for the Rugby Sevens event, party of Spring Games programme. Additionally this week also saw a Collegiate Sevens tournament launched in the USA.
