Les Bleus out to defend Stanislas Sevens

Thursday 1 April 2010 (UR7s)

This Easter weekend once again see Nancy play host to the second running of the Stanislas Sevens. Last year saw the inaugural staging of the tournament in north-eastern France with another strong line-up expected in the region this weekend.

Organisers Sylvain Mottet and Clément Lapeyre have once again teamed up to bring in a range of different European national teams looking to prepare for the impending FIRA season.

Defending champions Les Bleus are back to keep hold their title, with Chairman Giancarlo Toufou promising a strong team consisting of one IRB Sevens World Series representative and four FIRA players. They are pooled with G.Centre, Poland, and Central for the qualifying stages. Les Bleus reached the semi-finals in February's Las Vegas Invitational Sevens.

French Students are once again bringing two teams to the event with their 1st VII (U1) finishing runners-up last year to Toufou’s Bleus. World University Champions in 2004 and 2006, U1 faces Morroco, Netherlands, and Franche Comté.

Germany return with coach Rainer Kumm using this event last year as a warm-up for the London Sevens. Kumm’s team faces Belgium, Lorraine, and Algeria who are expected to bring in some Fijians recruits once again.

The final pool since French Students 2nd VII (U2) face Switzerland, SOOS, and Bourgoune. The tournament will include a youth section for the very first time with statistics for each team and match being produced to aid the respective coaches gathered.

Recent French Grand Slam winners Morgan Parra will be present acting as an ambassador for the tournament.
