Samoa came from behind in an absorbing final to beat New Zealand 24-21 and win the 2010 Hong Kong Sevens.
It is Samoa’s third consecutive win on this year’s IRB World Sevens Series and pushes them into top spot in the overall log.
Mikaele Pesamino, voted the tournament's Best and Fairest, and an inspired Simaika Mikaele both crossed twice as the Samoans recovered from 14-0 down in a stamina sapping game.
The win gives Samoa 30 points and an overall 124 points in the season standings. The Kiwis drop to second with 121 points.
Elsewhere, Australia stormed to their third Plate win over South Africa this season and Canada thrashed Wales to grab the Bowl. Hosts Hong delighted the 30,000 gathered in So Kon Poh with a victory in the Shield, their first bit of silverware at their home tournament in nine years.
International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge was among the trophy presenters, attending the Hong Kong Sevens after the sport was given Olympic status in October.
Samoa unstoppable in Cup
New Zealand’s Kurt Baker good form continued in the Cup final scoring two early tries. Mikaele scored twice before the break to close the gap to just two points at the half. Samoa took the lead early in the second half and soon after the islanders counter-attacked again with the outstanding Pesamino completing an 80m move as bodies lay scattered.
England competed strongly against the vastly more experienced Samoans in the first semi-final but succombed to a second half onslaught. Mikaele Pesamino again showing his class with two scores in the 28-24 win. Kurt Baker was unstoppable for the kiwis in their semi-final, crossing four times in the 28-33 win over defending champions New Zealand
Samoa proved too hot to handle for USA in the first quarter-final, despite the Americans leading at half-time. Stephen Betham's men click into gear inthe secon period though scoring three times inthe 24-7. Tom Powell was the South Stand's hero in England's win over Australia, touching down for a 26-19 win in see-saw battle.
Scores from Tuwai and Lutumailagi gave Fiji the edge in their tense 14-12 win over South Africa. There was no fairy-tale for Kenya with New Zealand too powerful for them in the last quarter-final. Tries from Tokula, Cama, and Mikkelson proved the difference.
Another Plate for Australia
Australia went through to the final against the brave USA with a 21-12 win. Exciting teenager Kimami Situati going over late to seal the win and final spot for the Aussies. South Africa booked their final spot with Mpho Mbiyozo's late try giving them their second win of the weekend over Kenya.
Canada show ability in Bowl win
Wales got the better of Scotland of Wales in an exciting Celtic clash in the first semi-final. Bramwell, Rees, Webb and Cuthbert crossing the 26-7 win. Canada booked their spot in the final, surviving a late Portugal comeback to win 26-24.
Wales dug deep to beat Argentina in the quarter-finals, Nicky Thomas’ try the winner. Scotland got the better of Japan, but only just, with Stevie Gemmell’s team going through 10-12. Morgan Williams' young Canada got the better of Tonga 26-0 with the Portugese beating France 17-7 in a fiery quarter-final clash.

Zimbabwe’s Cheetahs swept aside Thailand 43-12 in the first quarter-final, Gardener Nechironga continuing his solid form with two tries. China and Russia, both countries with huge Olympic potential, met in the second quarter-finals with the Russians too strong winning 17-31.
