Hosts Australia remained unbeaten on a pulsating day of action at the IRB Adelaide Sevens. The home side ended the hopes of England with a tight 19-12 win to relegate Ben Ryan’s side to the Bowl in the fifth leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.

It meant USA qualified for their first Cup quarter-final of the year, where they will meet Wales who topped Pool C. The Eagles will however be out with Paul Emerick following the forward's three match ban for dangerous play against Nieu.

Fiji’s win over Kenya means the Africans must also battle it out in tomorrow’s Bowl with defending champions South Africa topping Pool B thanks to a last gasp Cecil Afrika conversion.

Samoa’s Mikaele Pesamino continues to dominate the try-scoring stakes taking his tally to eight in Adelaide and helping his side into the quarter-finals. They will meet New Zealand who dominated Argentina 47-7 in Pool A.
The South Americans had already qualified for the Cup knockouts and will meet South Africa tomorrow.

Pool A – Kiwis looking ominous
New Zealand were made to work hard against a tough Tongan outfit before winning through 26-0. Gordon Tietjen’s side made short work of Argentina in the pool decider with Toby Arnold bagging two tries.
The Pumas booked their Cup quarter-final spot with a tight 14-7 win over a brave Scotland. The Scots again finished bottom of an IRB Pool following their defeat to Tonga.

Pool B – Defending champs on course

South Africa topped pool B after their 12-12 draw with Samoa Afrika's conversion sent them through at top seeds on points difference. Samoa were in ruthless form again Japan in the day’s opener with Mikaele Pesamino crossing five times in a 54-5 thrashing. South Africa also impressed against France with new boy Sampie Mastriet again making his mark with a brace of tries in the 38-0 win.

Pool C – Fiji and Wales through

Fiji and Wales are through to the quarter-finals. Fiji beat Kenya 21-7, whilst Wales thrashed PNG to book their spot on points scored. Kenya looked solid with a 19-5 win over Paul John’s Wales. Collins Injera looking particularly sharp with the Shuuja’s star performer going in twice. Fiji recovered from their defeat on Friday to Wales by thrashing PNG 41-0.

Pool D – USA join hosts in quarters

England came up short in the exciting end of day finale against Australia. Tries from Matt Turner and Tom Powell gave the English the half-time lead, but Liam Gill’s late meant the hosts remain unbeaten.

Australia booked their quarter-final passage with a clinical performance against a ragged USA, winning 36-0 thanks to Brackin-Karauria’s hat-trick.

The English earlier put away the disappointment of losing to the USA on Day 1 with a comprehensive drubbing of Nieu, with Ollie Lindsay-Hague scoring his first IRB try. The US found it harder going against the Islanders but did enough to win 29-7.
