Sevens raises funds for Haiti

Wednesday 17 March 2010 (UR7s)

Students at a UK university have shown a charitable side by organising a Rugby Sevens tournament to raised funds for victims of the Haiti earthquake catastrophe.

The rugby mad students at Newcastle University, in the north-east of England, organised the event to raise awareness and as part of their course.

Stuart Robinson, Benjamin Rose, and Peter Shiells were the brains behind the day, which raised £500.

10 teams participated with Wolfpack taking the overall title beating Castle Cheaters 24-12 in the day’s finale.
The Wolfpack avenged their defeat in the group stages to the Packers and breezed past Armstrong (semi-finals) and Sherman (quarter-finals) in the knockouts.

“With everything that had been going on we thought it would be an excellent idea to bring a sporting event for a great cause,” said Benjamin Rose

“We felt the response we gained from the teams was excellent and they thoroughly enjoyed it.The day went really well and most importantly we raised money for Haiti"

Teams: Wolfpack, Argics, Sherman, Fylde, Norfolk, Tynside, Castle Cheaters, Armstrong, Larrikins.
