UK Schools Sevens heads to the South West

Friday 12 March 2010 (UR7s)

The UK School Sevens season continues this weekend with 40 teams making their way to the 28th annual West of England tournament.

Both Under-16 and Under-18 sides will be battling it from 11:00am across four locations; Taunton Rugby Club, Queens College Taunton, Kings College Taunton.

Taunton RFC will play host to the knockout stages in the afternoon where the top two from each 5 team group qualify for cup and plate semi-finals.

Heavy favourites for the title will be Millfield, who kicked looked superb in taking the South Coast Sevens last weekend at Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS). Miles Mantella picked up the MVP award at PGS and will again be a key man for the Somerset school.

Bristol based Colstons lost out to Millfield in last weekend’s final and will be out for revenge this weekend, with the impressive Jackson Szbar again set to feature.

“West of England Sevens is regarded as the premier schools tournament in the South West. The teams see it as an important part of the preparation ahead of Nationals at Rosslyn Park,” says Tournament Organiser Nigel Smith.
