Fiji coach Iliesa Tanivula has revealed his squad for the next legs on the IRB Sevens World Series in Adelaide (19-21 March) and Hong Kong (26-28 March).
With key men Seremaia Burotu and William Ryder unavailable for the next two legs due to injury and illness Tanivula has opted for experience in their absence.
Burotu aggravated an injury playing for the Fiji Barbarians at the Nawaka Sevens while the mercurial Ryder has been in hospital with a mystery illness that has effected is left leg and hip.
Police Blue captain Etonia Naba and veteran Nasoni Roko return to the team as the Fijian look to close the gap on New Zealand who currently top this season’s overall table. Roko particularly was a key man for the Fijian’s successful Hong Kong campaign last year, their first win in Sevens’ mecca for 10 years.
Powerful forward Pio Tuwai came through a late fitness test to make the squad with injury doubt and skipper Emosi Vucago also given the green light to travel.
Speedster Waisale Beci also makes a welcome return to the squad after missing last month’s USA Sevens in Las Vegas. Beci was hugely impressive in Fiji’s win at the NZI Sevens in Wellington adding a genuine finishing ability to compliment the powerful forward line.
Josefa Bole who was part of the team to USA and Wellington has been named as the non-travelling reserve along with Randell Kamea and James Brown.
Face side face world champions Wales, Kenya, and Papua New Guinea at the group stages at the three day event at the Adelaide Oval.
Fiji Squads for Adelaide and Hong Kong:
Setefano Cakau, Etonia Naba, Pio Tuwai, Watisoni Votu, Apisai Naiyabo, Emosi Vucago, Niumaia Cakacaka, Jiuta Lutumailagi, Osea Kolinisau, Waisale Beci, Joeli Lutumailagi and Nasoni Roko.
