England Sevens without Phillips

Sunday 7 March 2010 (UR7s)

England Sevens star Ollie Phillips will miss out on the next two legs of the IRB Sevens World Series after the Stade Francais winger returned to his club for rehabilitation on a foot injury.

Phillips has been struggling with the injury throughout 2010 but was still involved in Stade’s 29-0 loss to Toulouse this weekend. The 08/09 IRB Sevens Player of the Year hasn't featured on this year's Series was hoping to feature for the crucial fifth and sixth stages of this campaign.

Oliver Lindsey-Hague, who made his England Sevens debut in Las Vegas last month, has been called in as a replacement for Phillips for the Adelaide and Hong Kong legs. (March 20-21 & 26-28).

England Sevens coach Ben Ryan has retained 11 players since last month's outing with Josh Drauniniu (Royal Navy & Harlequins) the only change to the squad.

England are currently in fourth place in the IRB standings behind Fiji, Samoa and New Zealand respectively and go to Adelaide and Hong Kong to try to boost their tally before their home event, the Emirates Airline London Sevens in May.

Ryan said, "It is a shame to lose an experienced player like Ollie but this is a new opportunity for Oliver who had a great debut in Vegas. This is his chance to come back and cement his place in the squad.

"Oliver was unlucky to miss out on selection the first time around for Adelaide and Hong Kong and it just shows the competitiveness for places in the squad.

"We have remained consistent this season with selection and are glad to see the return of Josh and are grateful to Harlequins for releasing him and Oliver."

Revised England Sevens squad for Adelaide and Hong Kong
