more »Injury and illness for Fiji

The Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) will not field a Fiji team at the Marist Sevens this weekend, as several players are still feeling the knocks and bruises from Vegas and Wellington.
The Fiji Sevens team players and officials had a meeting last night to decide what steps to take, as some of the players are still injured and recovering. “The players decided not to field a Fiji Team”, said Team Coach Iliesa Tanivula, adding “they will also take a break this weekend”.
It's hoped that the extra rest will give Fiji time to prepare physically for the 5th leg of the series. However, there is a concern that the fans flocking to the Marist Sevens will be disappointed that the national side is not competing.
Ryder taken Ill
Fiji star William Ryder has been taken into hospital with a mystery illness. Accompanied by his wife and an official of the Fiji Rugby Union, the 27-year-old was checked by doctors at the Suva Private Hospital yesterday evening before it was decided to admit him overnight for a review.
One of the hospital staff told Times Sport that Ryder could not walk and had to be taken inside on a wheelchair. Fiji Rugby Union logistics manager Semi Rogoyawa was at the hospital with Ryder.
"Ryder is in a lot of pain," Rogoyawa said. "His left leg and hip is affected by some mystery illness. "He (Ryder) told me it was a Fijian illness. He will have blood tests and x-ray later."
