New Zealand concerns ahead of Adelaide

New Zealand’s Ben Souness is confident he will be fit for the next leg of the IRB Sevens World Series in Adelaide.
The 24-year-old twisted his ankle in the semi-finals of the USA Sevens in Las Vegas on February 14 and missed the final, which the Kiwis lost to Samoa.

But Souness is already back in training and the forward is expected to feature.

Following the Adelaide leg, the teams will travel to the Hong Kong Sevens for the vital sixth leg of the eight tournament series.

What will concern New Zealand coach Gordon Tietjens more is the injury picked up by winger Sherwin Stowers, also in the Kenya clash.

Stowers, who has crossed the whitewash 20 times this season, sustained a serious leg injury and is rated a serious doubt ahead of the Adelaide leg.

Save Tokula has added another headache for Tietjens following his suspension for the next four more matches in Adelaide after being cited for a high tackle in Vegas.

New Zealand still top the overall table on the IRB Series with 84 points, with Samoa (70) and Fiji close behind on (68).

The New Zealand Sevens’ contracted squad of 16 will attend their usual camp in Mt Maunganui in the build up to Adelaide after which a squad of 12 will be named.
