Both India and Zimbabwe are expected to participate at this year's Hong Kong Sevens, the sixth leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.
To prepare for the event, Rugby India officials are supposedly locked in talks with the Fiji Rugby Union about taking part in their Marist Sevens in March (26-28 March)
India are expected to play at this year’s Hong Kong Sevens and are keen to expose themselves to as much tournament game-time as possible.
One of India’s Sevens coaches Usaia Biumaiwai, a Fijian who used to represent Nasinu, is reportedly very keen to bring his side to take on the best local sides in the area.
India are the hosts of this year’s Commonwealth Games with the squad working hard in training camps for the last 6 months.
Zimbabwe’s Cheetahs have also been invited at this year’s event. The Cheetahs were part of the 2009 event enjoying wins over Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei before bowing out in the Bowl semi-finals.
The Hong Kong tournament, considered the most high prestigious in the IRB Sevens World Series, is the only current leg that hosts 24 sides instead of the usual 16. Adelaide and Hong Kong are the only events to span three days.
