Borneo Eagles hitting Darwin's Hottest 7s

Monday 4 January 2010 (UR7s)

Darwin’s Hottest Sevens (23-24 January) continues to attract the very best international invitational teams from all over the globe, with the Borneo Eagles the latest side to confirm their presence in Australia’s Northern Territory for this year’s event.

The Sandakan based outfit will be making their debut at the event. The Eagles have become the standard-bearers of the Malaysian state of Sabah and in partnership with the Sandakan Rugby Union, the Eagles help develop and promote rugby as a community service in the region.

Similarly to the likes of last year’s Darwin semi-finalists, Samurai, a place in their line-up is by invitation only and they have toured all over Asian in their five year history.

The Eagles enjoyed a busy November in the middle of the Asia season. Firstly taking the Plate at the Singapore Cricket Club 7s and then they won the Cobra 10s including a strong line-up that included Samoans, Kiwis and Fijians.

Walker plays again with Dingoes

Aussie Rugby Star Andrew Walker's presence in Darwin has also been confirmed. The controversial dual code International will once again be turning out for the Darwin Dingoes, who won the Plate at the 2009 event.
Walker returned to Rugby Union two years ago, making the Queensland Reds squad and the Australian team for the Hong Kong Sevens.

This was after a two-year ban in 2004 for cocaine use that ended his NRL playing career with the Manly Sea Eagles. The Dijicel Samoa Barbarians beat the South Sea Drifters from Fiji in last year's Darwin finale but will not be making the trip in 2010 to defend their title.
