Strathmore Leos win Driftwood Sevens & Kenya Circuit

Monday 14 December 2009

The Strathmore Leos are the 2009 Western Union Kenya National Sevens Circuit winners courtesy of a hard fought 17-10 win over Kenya Harlequin FC in a thrilling Driftwood Sevens final played at the Mombasa Sports Club.

The game started on a tentative note, both sides stalking each other before Maurice Mbai beat a Quins opponent and offloaded to Mike Wanjala who grounded the ball for a 5-0 Strathmore lead. Kenny Andola converted giving the students a 7-0 lead.

Quins would try to get back into the game but Strath reclaimed posession and scored a second try through Maurice Mbai. Andola missed this conversion as the Leos led 12-0 going into half time.

The second half started with Quins on the attack, they would soon score a try through Patrice Agunda. Dave Gitau missed the conversion as the scores read 12-5 to Strath.

Quins were relentless and scored a second try through old faithful Victor Sudi before Andola killed Quins with a late try that he failed to convert.
