This weekend sees the historical Sao Paolo Lions International Sevens Rugby Cup take place.
Every December sees the biggest Sevens tournament in Brazil take place at the SPAC Rugby Club and this will be the first opportunity to showcase how the country can host a Sevens tournament on the big scale since the Olympic decision.
With the announcement that Rio de Janeiro will play host to Rugby Sevens’ first appearance at the Olympic Games in 2016, this will be seen as the beginning of the country’s preparations.
More than 400 players will participate in the four tournaments, and the primary clubs from the Brazilian Sevens will all take part.
As well as 16 teams in men’s competition, there are three other tournaments running concurrently – four teams in the veterans, eight in the schools and eight in the women’s.
The Brazilian women showed their class at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in March by reaching the final of the Bowl and narrowly missing out to China 10-7 and with some of that squad expected to be playing for their club teams this weekend it will be a close affair.
The traditional tournament marks the closing of the rugby season in the country and has the main objective of bringing together players and fans alike for a festival of the sport in the largest city in Brazil.

Thanks for the plug! I've updated the site with more information. Although we are fully loaded with teams for this year, we have provisional dates for the tournament next year and welcome any inquiries.

Just a correction: there will be 24 teams in men's competition (not 16), plus 12 on women's, 6 on Junior and 6 on Veterans.
