Kenya correspondent Maik Kwambo
Two straight title victories for the Strathmore Leos during the Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru and the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens in Nairobi have left the 2009 Western Union National Sevens Circuit finely poised heading into the final round in Mombasa, the Driftwood Sevens.
Finely poised because Strathmore and Kenya Harlequins are tied for the NSC leadership with 90 points apiece - though the Leos are placed first by virtue of a better overall record.
This sets the stage for a potentially explosive season finale in Mombasa as these two sides will definitely throw anything and everything at their disposal to ensure that they are crowned national sevens champions come Sunday evening.
Nakuru RFC started the championship rather brightly by winning the NSC opening Dala Sevens in Kisumu before making the Christies final in Nairobi a week later - but they have lately fallen off the pace, slipping to third with 82 points.
While it may appear like a two horse race heading into this weekend's Driftwood Sevens, never rule out the possibility of upsets occurring and Nakuru RFC will want to believe they are still in with an outside chance of claiming the overall title.
Kenya Commercial Bank RFC and Impala RFC round off the top five with 72 and 64 points and are for all intents and purposes out of contention for the title.
See you in Mombasa.
