The Brunei Rugby Football Union (BRFU) have now announced the full line-up for this weekend's Brunei Sevens, which is part of the IRB Asian Rugby Sevens Series.
Five teams will be participating in the tournament, Brunei Darussalam, India, Laos, Malaysia and Philippines.
Brunei team manager Clifford Chin also revealed the host’s squad for the event at a press conference at the Rizqun International Hotel yesterday.
"We are ready!" said the team manager when asked on the team's preparations.
"We have been training for this tournament for more than two months and we have competed in matches overseas to gain more exposure and experience."
When asked on BRFU's biggest threat during the tournament, the team manager felt Malaysia will be the ones to beat.
"This is because they are used to the weather conditions in the region and have participated in numerous tournaments in the past."
The Malaysian 7s won the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Sevens in September last year and were also boosted by the presence of three Fijians in the team.
Following this weekend’s tournament, there remains three more legs of the Series; Borneo Sevens, Kish Island Sevens, and Sri Lanka Sevens.
"In regard to the original plan of eight teams, this is the first time that this inaugural series has been done, so we did expect hiccups. We are lucky that we have five teams.
"For most of the teams coming in, the major obstacle has proven to be paying the fare to come in."
Moving on, Ainol spoke of what the environment is set to be like during the tournament.
"We are going to have a carnival-like atmosphere outside, with bouncy castles, face painting, and clowns," he said.
According to Ainol Razman, Director of BRFU, the aim of the tournament is to create an opportunity for all Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) members to participate in an ARFU Sevens Tournament.
"We want to produce a 'ranking' of Asian teams and provide a pathway for ARFU members at an international standard, which is the International Rugby Board (IRB) World Sevens Series," he said.
"This is also to enable the BRFU to prepare themselves for the multi-sports events in Asia such as in the Commonwealth Games and even the Olympics in 2016 at Rio de Janeiro," he added.
The opening ceremony will take place at 1pm on Oct 24 and the first match will kick off at 1.30pm, and matches run to 6pm.
Borneo Sevens Squad:
Faez bin Anuwar (captain), Detrus Tuan, Richard Chin, Cristian Daneil Wong, Cassidy Enggau, Mohd Ziyad, Damian Donavan, George Pyros, Nobel Lee, Ronny Tarang, Augustin Mulok and Lim Shen Quan.
