more »02 Scrum on the Beach set for finale

Over the UK summer the RFU has worked in conjunction O2 to bring multiple ‘Scrum on the Beach’ events all around the country. These have ranged from Yarmouth, Skegness, Southport to Newquay as beach and tag rugby continues to grow in popularity.
With the last of the eight O2 Scrum on the Beach events now at an end, the winning team from each regional event, plus four additional sides, will travel to Twickenham on Friday September 25 to take part in a final tag tournament with England Rugby stars, Austin Healey and Paul Sackey.
The 12 teams ranging from Great Yarmouth's Doh Nutters to the Brady Bunch from Newquay were selected at their respective Scrum on the Beach event by O2's Beach Rugby Ambassador, London Wasps and England wing Paul Sackey, for displaying the best beach rugby style, both on and off the pitch. They were judged on style of play, look and attitude.
On arrival at Twickenham, the teams will be welcomed by former England star Austin Healey who will talk through the competition rules, before kicking off the tag tournament. The teams will then take to the pitch in the hope of claiming one of three prizes, including the all important winners cup.
Mark Stevenson, Head of Sponsorship, O2 said: "The response to this year's O2 Scrum on the Beach has been phenomenal and we've been very impressed with the level of talent from the teams that have taken part this summer.
"The events have given a huge number of people access to rugby and we hope inspired some of them to get more involved in the sport. The final will give those top teams a fantastic opportunity to really put their skills to the test, and where better to do that, but at Twickenham Stadium, the Home of England Rugby."
O2 Scrum on the Beach is part of the RFU's Play On campaign, sponsored by O2, which aims to keep 16-24 year-olds involved in and playing the game as they move from school into higher education and beyond.
Since its launch in May 2008, Play On, which is also supported by the National Sports Foundation, has created a network of more than 1,400 O2 Pathfinders to guide young players on their rugby journey, promoted rugby directly to thousands of teenagers and created more teams, competitions, coaches and referees to sustain the growth of the game.
Andrew Scoular, RFU Community Rugby Director, said: "Rugby is the fastest growing major sport in the country and the Play On campaign is all about making sure we keep as many young people involved in the game as possible. The O2 Scrum on the Beach series was a major success last year and it has been fantastic to have O2's continued support in expanding the programme to provide even more playing opportunities this year."
