Suva Sevens add more IRB circuit regulars

Thursday 17 September 2009 (Fiji Village)

International Rugby Sevens Series World Series champions South Africa are likely to be part of the Digicel Suva Rugby Festival in January.

South Africa who also recently confirmed their participation at the Namibia Sevens in Windhoek are also likely to be joined in Suva by Kenya.

Held from January 15-23 2010 at a number of venues in Suva, the Suva Rugby Festival promises to be one of the biggest rugby festivals in the world with more than 200 teams participating culminating in the international tournament.

The event has already confirmed Samoa and Tonga will be there as well Manawatu from New Zealand - Samoa also participating in the Namibia Sevens.

Manawatu will be able to call upon the services of two of Gordon Tietjen’s New Zealand Sevens side in Lote Raikabula, Tomasi Cama and also New Zealand U20 captain and IRB Junior player of the year Aaron Cruden.

Suva Rugby Festival Chairman Vilikesa Rauca said they are now looking at the cost of bringing in South Africa and Kenya, who are expected to be additional draw cards for the tournament.

it was also confirmed that recently appointed Papua New Guinea head coach Waisale Serevi will be bringing his side to the party.

Rauca added that they will now have to look at other teams like Scotland, Hong Kong, France and Western Force, who have shown interest to play in Fiji next year to complete the line up.
