more »Women's preview: USA National All-Star Sevens

Seven of the eight women’s squads have been announced ahead of this weekend’s USA National All-Star Sevens Championships at Randall’s Island in New York.
The USA Women’s U23 side is also set to take part but the seven territories have released their rosters for the forthcoming All-Star tournament, the ninth since it began in 2001, as well as the men's rosters.
The field is littered with talent including several stars that were present at the inaugural women’s tournament at the RWC Sevens in Dubai for the USA.
The USA women’s national Sevens coach Sue Parker will be at the tournament, along with the men’s coach Al Caravelli, to scout any potential talent for their future sides.
In Pool A Northeast appear to be the strongest side on paper having three of the RWC squad members in Ines Rodrigues and Jen Sinkler from Keystone, as well as Alison Price from NYRFC.
They have won the competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and it is Price’s NYRFC who make up the majority of the squad with no less than five players.
Last year they won the Plate and are joined in their pool by last year’s winners and first seeds Midwest as well as South (whose men have pulled out) and the U23 side.
The Midwest side also has a strong contingent from one side with five players from Chicago North Shore including Jenny Lui and Devin Torii making up the squad coached by John McGeachy.
The South side has six Atlanta Harlequins players amongst them and go into the competition seeded eighth having lost to Southern California in the seventh place play-off 17-0 last year.
In Pool B last year’s runners-up West, losing 19-17 to Midwest in the final, are coached by Laura Hertel and will play Mid-Atlantic, Pacific and Southern California including players such as Kandis Ruiz and Jessica Lucia.
Mid-Atlantic who are comprised much of the squad from NOVA who won the inaugural women’s competition at the US National Club Sevens were beaten in the Plate final in by Northeast last year 15-5.
Among their squad are NOVA players Stacy Bennett, Elizabeth Black, Dana Creager, CJ Hildreth, Katie Miller and Lauren Hoeck, another member of the RWC Sevens squad that travelled to Dubai.
SoCal are headlined by Kelly White as the sole representative from BCWRFC. White was also in Dubai and they are coached by Sheri Hunt.
Last year’s Bowl winners Pacific, having beating U23s 17-12, complete the pool and include eight women from Berkeley All Blues.
Berkeley also put in a good performance at the inaugural women’s tournament at the US National Sevens losing out to NOVA in the final 35-0 but had beaten Surfers 20-5 well in the semi-final.
The first match will see SoCal play Pacific play at 11:00 (local time) before West play Mid-Atlantic. The first two Pool A matches see Midwest play Northeast and before U23s meet South.
On an adjacent field to the tournament, the All-Star Sevens event will also feature the Liberty Cup 2009, which will includes Camp Lejeune, Fort Bragg, NYPD and FDNY rugby teams competing for this year's honour.

Anyone know why USA Sevens captain Christy Ringgenberg, also known as 'Ringgenbergerstienenhoffermeister' has not been selected? Will give a chance for Sue Parker to have a look at some up and coming stars though!
