Dallen Stanford: Belmont Shore march on in US Nationals

Sunday 16 August 2009

During the US Nationals, UR7s are providing a glimpse behind the scenes. Here is Dallen Stanford of Belmont Shore with his take of Day 1...

Hi UR7s readers!

As you may know the beautiful city of San Francisco is playing host to the 2009 USA National 7s competition.

Treasure Island was packed with spectators today as some 200 players fought it out during the all important pool stages of Day 1. There were as expected some major upsets, and of course a few nail biting finishes!

Denver, Aspen, Chicago Lions and Belmont Shore won their pools, setting up some thrilling quarterfinal matches. It has been a long day indeed, hence the short summary, but this journalist needs his rest before taking on Life University tomorrow morning.

As far as my team (Belmont Shore) went today – we started off superbly beating the Chicago Griffins 40-0. Old Blue from New York was next in a bruising encounter, with Belmont coming out 14-0. The final pool game was another classic rival encounter with OMBAC – seeing Shore score three unanswered tries to seal a 17-7 victory.

OMBAC join an unexpected NOVA in the bottom eight of the competition.

It is going to be a cracking final day of 7s my friends! Stay tuned.
