Last year’s runners-up, British Army, have announced their squad ahead of this weekend’s Middlesex Sevens at Twickenham on Saturday.
Included for British Army is Apo Satala, who was signed for Gloucester off the back of his performance at Middlesex Sevens, and they begin their campaign against Bath who announced their squad on Tuesday.
Satala, who was part of Fiji’s Rugby World Cup Sevens squad that were knocked out by Kenya 26-7 in the quarter-finals, will be looking to help his side win Middlesex for the first time since 2004.
Alongside the Fijian the former Scottish Sevens captain Mark Lee and the talented Gerrard Wessels are also included for a side that has the advantage of having played in tournaments all summer with a consistent side.
They have already won Bath, Newquay and Worthing, and will be buoyed with confidence and hoping to go one better this year.
The fourth invitational side, Kukri White Hart Marauders, who are making their Middlesex Sevens debuts, have also announced their squad including RWC Sevens winner Craig Hill.
Welshman Hill was also part of the Newport RFC side who won the Men of Gwent tournament on Saturday, alongisde Tom Jarvis and Alex Cuthbert who impressed on the day and are also selected.
Howard Graham, who has tasted success with the Army at Twickenham in the past, leads the squad with his side already retaining their Kinsale Sevens crown earlier this summer as well as being runners-up in Newquay and Manchester.
Graham will need all his experience, however, as his side begin their campaign against last year’s winners Harlequins.
British Army squad: Mark Lee, Apo Satala, Toobes Naulivou, Joe Vatubua, Zack Vakasawaqa, Petero Rokomatu, Kenasi Maritiro, Gerrard Wessels, Matthew Saulailai, Gus Qasevakatini, Maika Burenivalu, Semesa Rokoduguni, Box Lagilagi
