Titterrell faces former club at Middlesex Sevens

Tuesday 11 August 2009 (UR7s and RFU)

The Help for Heroes squad has been announced for Middlesex Sevens and one player, Andy Titterrell, is relishing the chance of a Twickenham return this Saturday against his former club Sale Sharks.

Capped four times by England, including the 39-7 win against Italy in the 2005 RBS 6 Nations, Titterrell will return to Twickenham as part of the invitational Help for Heroes side coached by England Sevens' Ben Ryan.

Titterrell was part of Sale’s Guinness Premiership winning side in 2005/6 when he played every single match for them and the 2005 British and Irish Lion will feature here alongside England Sevens internationals, Uche Oduoza, Greg Barden (Royal Navy) and Simon Hunt (Birmingham and Solihull).

"This is a fantastic opportunity for me to return to Twickenham and represent Help for Heroes, it's a great cause and one I'm proud to be involved with,” said Titterrell.

"Ben Ryan has had a very successful season with England Sevens so I'm really looking forward to working with him and learning from the master!

"I wasn't lucky enough to play sevens for England but I love the form of the game and my first taste of it was playing in the Middlesex 7s for Sale alongside Mark Cueto when I was 19.

"We play Sale in our first match on Saturday so I will be playing against my former team mates which I'm really looking forward to."

Ryan's squad, in aid of the charity which supports the care and rehab for injured British service personnel serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, also features Scotland U20 Peter Jericevich (Glasgow Hawks) and countryman Rory Hutton (Heriot’s). Welsh Rugby World Cup Sevens winner Tal Selley who recently signed for Birmingham and Solihull is also included.

David Akinluyi, who is no stranger to scoring at Twickenham having crossed the whitewash for Cambridge University in a varsity match in 2005, is also included.

The Help for Heroes, British Army, Kukri White Hart Marauders and ULR Samurai 7s form the four invitational sides which will compete against the 12 Guinness Premiership squads.

Help for Heroes 7s squad: Chris Brightwell, Tom Powell, Greg Bardon, Andy Titterrell, Simon Hunt, Rory Hutton, Peter Jericevich, Mark Woodrow, Tal Selly, Matt Turner, Uche Oduoza, David Akinluyi
