Final qualifier set for Pacific Coast

Friday 31 July 2009 (UR7s)

Just two places are left in the US National Sevens brackets with the remaining spots set to be filled at this weekend’s Pacific Coast RFU 7s Qualifier.

This will be the first time that the Arizona Rugby Union have held the only 7s qualifier with Mt. Elden Middle School in Flagstaff, playing host.

The tournament is an all-comers event, and in fact the qualifier bracket will charge an entrance fee of $0.

Olympic Club, San Francisco (SFGG) and Old Puget Sound are expected to field strong teams at the tournament, as are the most local contenders, Tempe. Park City Haggis and East Palo Alto are other possible contenders.

The Winners will head to the Nationals (15th August) as the Pacific Coast number one seeds and will face Denver, Life, and Schuylkill River in Pool A. The runners up in Arizona will immediately be placed in Pool C facing off against Nova, Glendale, and Chicago Lions.

*The WRFU have confirmed that Denver Barbarians will be Number 1 seeds for Nationals even though they have compiled the same amount of points (14) as the Gentlemen of Aspen. This is due to Denver beating the Gents in two of the three matches they have played this season.
