Another summer and another Palo Alto Series is complete.
The longest running continuous summer sevens rugby series in United States has once again provided a great platform for more than 40 teams of all levels to participate in a tournament in California.
The Palo Alto Summer 7’s Series has been in existence since 1972 and on three Saturday’s every summer – this year June 27, July 11 and July 25 – Palo Alto becomes the premier rugby destination in California hosting the teams that can compete in Under 19, women or men's categories.
While the series doesn’t really provide trophies, it doesn’t mean that it is not hugely popular and rewarding for all those involved.
This year, the Fiji Barbarians, East Palo Alto, Olympic Club and Diablo all performed well and will take some valuable lessons away from being part of such an intense tournament.
But it was Diablo and SFGG who looked the most impressive on the final Saturday beating all who stood before them. They dispatched the Fiji Barbarians 10-0, Hayward 35-14, and Olympic 25-14 to cap a fine day of rugby.
Series director John Tyler was very impressed with the performances of all teams, and believes the tournament will provide a good platform in taking a step up to the next level.
“These clubs can play with any 7s team in the country,” Tyler said.
