more »Denver defeat reigning National Champions and take first blood

The Denver Barbarians defeated the reigning national champions The Gentlemen of Aspen. 15-7 in the Cup final of the first West Sevens Qualifier.
The Barbarians went undefeated during the day (Pool B) and won most of its matches in dominating fashion at the event which was hosted by Dallas Harlequins. The Gentlemen of Aspen were the Pool B winners via a three-way tiebreaker with Austin Elite and Glendale. Austin finished second and Glendale third respectively.
In the Cup Semi Finals, the Barbos defeated the Austin Elite 45-5 while Aspen defeated the Kansas City Blues 24-5. Overall third place went to the Austin Elite with a final score of 31-0 over the Blues.
This was a big win for the Barbarians and huge step towards qualification with 1 of the 2 remaining tournaments taking place in their own back yard ,where they are traditionally very difficult to beat. Aspen will be out for revenge though in a couple of weeks time as they aim to make it back to the big show to defend their national title.
The second West qualifier will be hosted by the Denver Barbarians on July 11th. The third and final West qualifier will be hosted by the KC Blues on July 25th.
