The upcoming Abbotsford Rugby Sevens event has a new-found zest — a fever for international flavour.
This ‘made in Abbotsford’ sport and entertainment first is becoming increasingly eclectic by celebrating sport, entertainment, and now cultural diversity.
The Kenyan Sevens Team was one of the original teams, but now the West Indies Sevens Team, featuring players from the Caribbean Islands, has confirmed its participation. These international teams are sure to add a sultry spin to the sport and entertainment event, enabling increased creativity and cultural exchange, and unique nuances that will be conveyed through music and dance artists, artisans, exhibitors and clothing and food vendors.
The final list totals 16 teams including Kenyan Sevens, West Indies Sevens, Rugby Canada, Ex-Canada Select, Bayside RFC, Meraloma RFC, Lionheart Select, Del Rey RFC, Abbotsford RFC, University of Victoria Select, St. Albert RFC, Ex-Brits, Scribes RFC, Wizards, Burnaby Lake Lighthouse, and Fiji Select Bayside.
The West Indies and Kenyan Sevens Teams are also scheduled to arrive a few days before the big event to participate in an exciting and engaging three-day training camp, which will also be held in Abbotsford. Pre-festivities include a VIP welcome dinner, training camp and interactive coaching clinics.
The Abbotsford Rugby Sevens continues to evolve and sponsors and partners continue to jump on board with the latest addition being James Kibugi, co-founder of Ground Up Entertainment. Kibugi’s in-depth expertise in event planning and management and entertainment marketing is sure to take Abbotsford Rugby Sevens to an unprecedented level, luring spectators from across North America.
