Watsonians were crowned King of Sevens champions at the weekend after taking enough points at the Jed Forest Sevens to win the overall series for the first time.
The Myreside men defeated title challengers Selkirk in the semi-finals of the Jed Forest Sevens at Riverside Park to secure the seven points they needed to top the overall standings.
At Jed, Watsonians saw off Gala and Haddington to make it to the crunch last-four match with Selkirk.
In that pulsating tie, Tupu Saena was the star of the show with two tries while Andrew Skeen, back from Italy and on for the injured Ker, scored another as they won 21-12.
Heriot's, with Stuart Bell their best player, also made it to the last four before losing to Hawick. In the final, it was Watsonians who struck first with a try from Eddie Howe, but a swift reply from player of the tournament Ryan Hogg and scores from Hutton and Greg Goodfellow put Hawick into a 19-5 lead. Di Rollo responded for Watsonians with a fine try but from a clever move Hawick finished with a try by Graham Hogg to make sure of victory, despite a last-second try for Watsonians by Skeen. Hawick finished overall runners up in the series and Rory Hutton continued to show what a real talent he is.
Watsonians captain Mike Ker was obviously delighted in the aftermath.
"I am absolutely over the moon and I am so pleased for this group of players. We have come close to being crowned Kings over the last two years and we really wanted it badly this time around.
"There have been some great tournaments over the last few weeks and we have had to dig in, but this feeling makes it all worthwhile."
Watsonians had originally leapfrogged leaders Selkirk to the top of the table the day before at the Earlstone Tournament with a crushing 45-12 win over Hawick in the final. The week before Selkirk took home the 125th Gala Sevens to briefly take them to the top of league, but there was no denying that Watsonians deserved their title consistently playing the best and most positive brand of sevens throughout the series.
