Scotland and England will face each other in the opening match of the Emirates Edinburgh Sevens Festival, the final leg of the IRB World Sevens Series.
The Auld Enemies have been draw together in group C along with Canada and Kenya, while World Series leaders South Africa have been handed a tough examination in their pool against defending champions New Zealand.
Paul Treu's Boks currently lead the race for the overall title by 28 points from second-placed England and look well set to land a first ever IRB Sevens crown. Any slip-up at Twickenham the previous weekend would make their Pool A challenge against the Kiwis, France and USA even more of a challenge.
Kenya, currently ranked sixth in the standings, but have shown themselves in recent weeks to be one of the form teams currently after reaching three Cup semi finals this season, one final in Adelaide and their clash with the English will be another fascinating tussle. With England currently lying in the runners up position a good showing from them at Twickenham could give them a shot at Series glory at Murrayfield.
Argentina are the top seeds in Pool D, the Rugby World Cup Sevens runners-up drawn against Samoa, Georgia and World Champions Wales. Hong Kong Sevens champions Fiji line up at Murrayfield as second seeds and top Pool B with matches against Australia and Iberian neighbours Portugal and Spain.
The hosts Scotland are one of five sides in the 20 team tournament who have failed to record any points in any of the six legs so far but are backing themselves to raise their game in front of their fans.
Scotland 7s coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: “It’s very special to play at home. We’ve shown in the past through performances and results the difference it can make when the Murrayfield crowd is behind us.
“You can’t take away from the passion involved in a Scotland v England match but it’s also our first game of the day and we need to put in a performance in order to build momentum for the games against Kenya and Canada.”
“The scene is set for an incredible climax to this 10th Anniversary IRB Sevens World Series in Scotland, the home of Sevens rugby," said IRB Sevens Manager Beth Coalter.
“South Africa have been outstanding this season and have certainly put themselves into the strongest of positions to clinch a historic first ever Series.
"The rugby has been so competitive this year, though, with so many teams capable of pulling off shock wins - there may yet be a twist in the tail."
