Sevens rugby legend Eric Rush will be chief guest at this Friday’s official launch of the 2012 Uprising Fiji International Sevens.
“Rushie”, as his friends call him, last visited Suva 12 years ago when he led his New Zealand Sevens team to victory at the Fiji International Sevens in the first IRB Sevens World Series.
He said that he is definitely looking forward to returning to Fiji as he has got many wonderful memories of playing rugby here and has heard a lot of good things about the Uprising Fiji International Sevens.
He added that he has had plenty of battles against the Fijians, especially in the early days of the IRB circuit and he is really looking forward to meeting some old rugby friends again.
The official launch will be held at the Uprising Fiji Beach Resort in Pacific Harbour on Friday.
The 2012 Uprising Fiji International Sevens will be held from January 20-21 at the TFL National Stadium.
Pressure on Fiji
“Lets trust the system we have in place “
Before the Digicel Fiji 7's departed for the opening leg of the IRB 7's series, those were the words of Fiji Rugby Union Chairman, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga in assuring the sponsors and the rugby public that the new coaching philosophy will bear fruit in the future.
While the win in Gold Coast was what many believe the start of a new era in 7's rugby, the results in Dubai and South Africa yesterday was not expected by the Fiji 7's team.
Tikoitoga has made it clear that they have confidence in the new coaching model of running rugby.
Since the NZ, USA, Hong Kong, Australia, England and Scotland 7s tournaments, Fiji has managed only 1 win in the new season in Gold Coast 3 weeks ago before following the same path again with consecutive losses in Dubai and South Africa yesterday.
Now the attention turns to New Zealand who are joint leaders with Fiji on 51 points.
Fiji will meet Wales, Tonga and Argentina in the pool games in February.
