Hong Kong, 9 November 2011 - The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) today named a 13-man squad for the Noosa and Gold Coast rugby sevens tournaments. The two international invitation tournaments will be held on 12th-13th and 19th-20th November in Noosa, Brisbane, and Gold Coast, Queensland respectively.

Led by captain Rowan Varty, the 13-strong squad comprises mostly the players who have taken part in the current Asian Sevens Series, with two new additions – Lee Jones and Ross Armour, both from Tradition Valley. “Lee and Ross both had outstanding performances during the Asian 5 Nations series early this year and the build-up has gone well,” HKRFU national coach Dai Rees commented, “This is their first sevens tour with the senior sevens squad and we hope the two of them can have as much of an impact as they did with the national XVs team.”

The Gold Coast international sevens tournament (The Hyperion Paradise Sevens) sees lots of the core IRB circuit teams taking part, such as Fiji, Samoa, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, and Dai Rees is looking forward to seeing the Hong Kong Dragons being competitive and hopefully upsetting some of the big teams at the tournament. “This is a great opportunity for the squad to compete and gauge where they are at in terms of skills and tactical understanding of the game, as they will come up against some of the top professional players who are participating in the IRB sevens circuit.”
