Samoa are the new Safaricom Sevens champions after beating Samurai 31-14 in the main cup final before a large crowd at the Nyayo National Stadium.
In one of the strongest Safari 7s in years, with a new date in November, Nairobi was once again treated to a festival of 7s with international, invitational and club sides going toe to toe for the title.
Samoa won for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, following their Oceania 7s title in Apia last week, they took out the final against the world famous Samurai International. Samurai have never won the Safari 7s and it look that it might be their year after beating Emerging Boks, Kenya and Spain over the weekend but it was not to be as Samoa once again showed that they are going to be a force on the HSBC World Sevens Series this coming season. Keny have some work to do after their semi-final loss to Samurai, the home crowd was somewhat dismayed as their beloved 'shujaa' fell short on home soil.
With Samurai being made up of players from Fiji and Daveta winning in Singapore over the weekend, it only went to underline the strength of the game in Fiji whilst also showing that New Zealand, England and South Africa will be facing a real challenge from the Pacific Island teams this year.
Top US club Belmont Shore will be pleased to head back across the Atlantic with some silverware following their victory of Bristol University Select that featured players such as Sam Shires and David Smith.
